YouTube Previews New Option to Link Shorts Clips to Longer Video Uploads
Once YouTube Shorts launched, many people saw a decline in engagement on their longer videos. There is no question that as humans, our attention span has decreased and we find that shorter more to-the-point articles, videos, and even conversations are more effective.
YouTube will now offer a new option to link your Shorts videos to your longer video uploads in hopes of funneling our watchers from your Shorts to the longer videos to boost your reach and views.
How to Link Longer Videos to Your YouTube Shorts
The new option will be found in YouTube Studio. You will be able to insert the link to the preferred longer video inside the description of the YouTube Short. There will also be a button to play the video making it extremely easy for the viewer to effortlessly play the next video.
The linked video should have similarities to the YouTube Short or an expansion of information so that the viewer watching the short has the want to watch something else regarding that topic.
Why Link Longer Videos to YouTube Shorts?
As we discussed above, YouTube shorts are simply more popular than the longer YouTube Videos. In fact, Neal Mohan, YouTube’s Chief Product Officer says:
“Shorts has really taken off and are now being watched by over 1.5 billion logged-in users every month”
It is also worth noting that monetizing from YouTube Shorts is much rarer than with regular videos so if you are able to use your YouTube Shorts to gain more viewers on your regular videos for better chance of monetizing.
The feature is not launched yet, but says it will be available for all creators by next month so be sure to stay tuned!
